Thin Film Lab is a growing laboratory for realization of various electronic devices such as sensors, transistors, displays and nano-structured materials. Over the past four years, we have developed several crystallization and micro-machining techniques which have been innovative and world-class publishable. The main objective of this lab is to start from simple projects and devices and develop processes which are needed to make reliable and reproducible products. While in a research environment, we have attempted several electronic devices with a great market in automotive industry. Development of Ge-based piezo-resistive sensors for fuel-injection engines, consumer-based strain-gage devices and pressure-sensors based on thermo-couple arrays are the most prominent ones. Also, we are developing a novel approach to fabricate flexible televisions on plastic using a plasma display technique. To upgrade the laboratory and its onward growth, we are trying to establish equipment for high performance high frequency transistors using a hetero-structure basis. These devices are most suitable for telecommunication. The main part of such an achievement is the growth of high quality semiconductor in the form of mono-crystalline layers. Molecular beam epitaxy is the heart for such a mission and other facilities are needed to finalize the fabrication. Also in-house fabrication of simple integrated circuits is currently being pursued by the researchers in this laboratory. Addition of ion-implantation unit in our lab is an exclusive opportunity in this line of work and with the aids of a few more pieces of equipment, we hope to realize operational small circuits for both industrial and educational applications. In summary, this lab is much ongoing and its rich resume is the best proof for this claim. With some aids from this project, we can fabricate (in a pilot plan) several useful devices and simple circuits both for industrial (especially auto-industry and communication) and educational applications.
